Thank you, Friends of Varina's Schools!

Please accept my heartfelt thanks for all of your hard work and support. Your overwhelming enthusiasm resulted in a huge win for Varina’s future with a margin of victory of over 1,400 votes. Your friends and neighbors reacted well to your support and enthusiasm.

This impressive result was not easy and reflects your efforts beginning last spring. Together, we placed over 1,500 yard signs and 60 4’x8’ signs, knocked on the doors of or called over 10,000 voters, “manned” 18 polling places for a combined total of 234 hours, and raised over $50,000.00 allowing us to mail over 50,000 pieces of literature. You have my gratitude and appreciation for being a part of our victory on Tuesday, November 6th!

Campaigns can be a grueling and unpleasant business. That was not the case in Varina District where I'm happy to say civility is still a mark of public service. I want to recognize and thank my fellow candidates, Ms. Joyce Davis and the Reverend Tyrone Nelson, for their shared commitment to our community and our kids and for their graciousness as we traveled the campaign trail.

While the new School Board will not be assuming office until the new year, I want you to know that I am as available to you now as I was as a candidate and as I will be as a School Board member. I'll be sending out new contact information soon. Your experience and perspective are one of my greatest resources and I look forward to working together to do what's right for our kids and best for our schools.

Sincerely,

John Montgomery
